More on Discomfort After Anal Play
I find your site very interesting and recently read the response to the question entitled 'Discomfort After Anal Play' on your site while searching for a question of my own I was hoping you could answer.
I am a male and have experienced some abdominal discomfort after using anal toys, specifically a soft 6-7" strapon by my wife. It was inserted fully and we had 'intercourse' for perhaps 10-15 mins during an experimental sexual session one evening, which was quite enjoyable and I experienced no problems whatsoever until the next morning.
From that point, about 12 months ago now, I have had abdominal cramps and discomfort, irregular bowel movements and excessive wind, and am becoming increasingly concerned. Previously I found that this came-and-went, however they seem to have gotten more frequent lately. I find that I experience such discomfort first thing of a morning and last thing of a night (probably due to pressure), and that they are relieved by passing bowel movements.
I saw a proctologist a while after, who said that there didn't appear to be any signs of a problem 'in there' or reason to stop, although I am unconvinced and still experiencing discomfort.
Could I have caused a problem by being too vigorous? I read in another article that sitting during an enema is also a problem. Or could this be a freak coincidence or something related to diet?
Your advice would be appreciated.
Thanks for writing and your compliments!
You didn't say how often you and your wife are enjoying the strap-on. You did mention that the first time was about 12 months ago. It sounds like you may have enjoyed it on many occasions since the first episode.
Of particular note was that a proctologist examined you and found no problems. This is a good thing since there are no tears or abscesses in the rectum. There are a couple of things that you might want to note the next time your wife uses the strap-on...
How long had it been since you last emptied your bowels? If it had been a while, the dildo may be pushing the stool upward, back into the colon. This could explain the discomfort you are having. I did notice that you said the discomfort is alleviated after you have a bowel movement. You may be 'packing things in' a bit too much!
It may be important to note that the rectum is a potential space. Like the vagina, it expands to accommodate feces and, during sex, any number of pleasurable things (penis, fingers, fist, dildos, vibrators). If you have feces in the rectum and it is move back up into the bowel, there is the empty space left behind that fills with air. Thus, you will have more gas than usual.
But, your diet could also influence the amount of gas that you experience. So, take a look at what you have been eating and whether the food has contributed to the gas. Foods that may contribute to more gas production include beans, milk and milk products, onions, celery, carrots, raisins, wheat products, cabbage, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts.
As for enemas and sitting, discomfort from the enema can be caused by irritation of the bowel by the enema solution or over-stretching the bowel with a lot of fluid.
Try a few things...
Move your bowels before enjoying strap-on or anal sex.
Change your diet to less gassy foods.
Change the size of the strap-on to one that is shorter, perhaps 5-6 inches in length.
Vary your position during anal sex.See if these things make any difference. I don't know how old you are, but if you are approaching mid-life (i.e. 50 years of age), you may want to ask about a screening colonoscopy.
Enjoy the strap-on sex...we do!
