Hitting the Cervix?
I've tried other websites and I never seem to get an answer. So I thought I would try this one.
My boyfriend and I recenlty started having intercourse in our relationship. Although he is not my first, he is the biggest i have been with. I've noticed that when we have sex I feel a slight pressure. It's feels like a pressure under my belly button. Is he hitting my cervix? Is he doing damage?
Thanks, Concerned.Our answer...
Thanks for writing. I hope we can be of assistance.
If your partner's penis to long or your vagina short (or any combination of those), he may be bumping up against your cervix. Usually during sexual arousal, the vagina opens and lubricates while the cervix pulls up - away from the vaginal entrance. This allows for the penis to enter the vagina without striking the cervix. In some situations, the penis bumps against the cervix and pushes it upward or to the side. The sensation you feel is probably his bumping against your cervix and slightly moving the abdominal organs. For some women, this can be pleasurable. For others, hitting the cervix can cause a cramping sensation. An excellent illustration of the female anatomy can be found at:

It's important to note that the penis cannot penetrate the opening of the cervix unless it has been dilated - opened physically (typically during the later states of labor). When the penis bumps into the cervix it generally does not cause harm. However, if you notice any bleeding after he has been deep inside your vagina, you might seriously consider speaking with your doctor and getting an exam. Otherwise, from what you indicate, there seems to be little to worry about.
Also, if you experience pain when he penetrates you deeply, it would be wise to change to a position that does not allow such depth. One favorite of many women (and men) is for the woman to be on top. In this position, he woman controls the depth an dangle of penetration.
Hope this information has been helpful
