Discomfort After Anal Play
I have experienced some abdominal discomfort for hours after using a small, blunt ended dildo in my rectum. It was only inserted 4 inches or so. There was no bleeding. Could I have stretched the rectal/colon wall or bruised other tissue?
Like your site, good to have those with medical experience and a sense of humour, to ask.Our answer...
Thanks for sending us your question and thanks, too for the compliments.
I have a couple of questions that may help clarify the situation. How often have you used the dildo? If this is an occasional use (infrequent) the rectum may be stretched unusually larger than it has been used to in the past. Stretching of the bowel or rectum can cause discomfort.
What is the diameter of the dildo - how big around is it? If it is small (1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter) it should not really pose any problem. The anus may be stretched a bit more than usual with a larger dildo, but if you go slowly, it should pose no problem.
You mention using the blunt end? What material is the dildo made of -- silicone, hard plastic/acrylic, latex? The harder the material (i.e. plastic or acrylic) the more the rectum is pushed. There are great silicone dildos available from may toy distributors such as Good Vibrations in San Francisco.
How vigorous are you when using the dildo? If you are relatively active, the thrusting of the dildo against the walls of the rectum could cause them to stretch too fast. The achiness or discomfort is generally caused by pushing the walls out too far. But, you might sense that while playing...then again, you might not depending on the sensations you are experiencing. One place that you may want to 'aim' for is the prostate so that you can massage the gland. The sensations from prostate massage can be intense and can lead to an even more intense orgasm. Check out the anatomy info on the website or better yet, feel your way around using your fingers or a small dildo
Do you use an adequate amount of lube? Actually, let me rephrase that. Do you use LOTS of lube? Since the rectum is not self-lubricating you will need to use plenty of lubricant and add some during your play.
Finally, after you ended your play, do you notice if you are passing a lot of gas? When my wife and I have enjoyed this type of play (we enjoy giving and receiving), we usually have more gas due to air entering the rectum during the fun time. Additionally, when she gets a tad vigorous with me, I can have a bit of discomfort following our playtime.
As long as there is no obvious signs of bleeding, you should be OK. Take it easy, especially if you are getting vigorous during the more passionate time. You may want to experiment with different types of dildos.
