Sex during her period leaving the tampon in

Sex during her period is not, as many think, dirty. Messy, yes, but dirty no. See our notes on sex during her period.

Not a self-cleaning vagina

It is not a good idea to engage in sexual intercourse while a tampon is still inserted. On occasion, the woman might forget that a tampon was inserted in the vagina and, during foreplay, it was not recognized (the string was overlooked!). During intercourse, the penis may push the tampon against the cervix flattening it and making it very difficult to retrieve later.

Since the vagina is unable to cleanse itself, repeated intercourse with the tampon inside the vagina may cause a foul-smelling discharge - this, as you can imagine, is a huge turnoff! In addition, a physician's help is may be needed to remove all of a tampon that may be disintegrating.

If you are concerned about the potential messiness of sex during her period, there are several options availble. If she uses a diaphragm it can be inserted before sex. And, as we mentioned, towels placed over the sheets will protect the bed.

Leaving the Tampon In
