Injuries to the Penis
As most people know, the term blow job, is a misnomer. The penis is sucked with varying degrees of intensity. Additionally, a partner may use the teeth to heighten the sensation. But, as delightful as these sensations can be, too much of a good thing can result in a slight injury. One minor injury is a small hematoma or bruise caused by too much suction. Applying intense suction to the penis causes the small blood vessels to leak, resulting in a black and blue mark (see the photo to the left). The mechanism and result is the same as the hickey…a hickey on the dickey! It is nothing to be alarmed about nor does it require medical attention. It will clear up on its own. If, however, you want to speed things up, you may want to apply a stringent such as witch hazel or arnica gel.
A slightly more serious injury is the abrasion or scrape cause by the teeth scraping the shaft of the penis (see the photo to the left). Another cause of an abrasion is a hair wrapping around the penis during oral sex. I a partner has long hair it can become entwined around the shaft and scrape the penis. Again, abrasions are minor injuries requiring minimal medical attention. However, the skin has been broken and the injury should be kept clean. Wash the penis with soap and water and, if you choose, apply a slight coating of neosporin-type ointment. You may want to avoid sex until the scrape is well healed – vaginal secretions can sting an open wound and pose a greater risk of infection. An infection may be developing if the injury becomes inflamed, swollen, and painful with pus oozing from the wound. In such cases, seek medical attention promptly.
Moving up the injury scale slightly is a bite wound to the penis (see photo to the left). If a partner gets too aggressive or carried away, the penis can get bitten. This can also happen if the oral delight is given while the benefactor driving. In a sense, if you get head while operating a motor vehicle you are asking for trouble. The pleasure can be so intense that you are not paying attention to driving. This sort of distraction has caused quite a few accidents. Additionally, there have been reports that the penis has been bitten off at the moment of impact. Finally, in some accidents, the collision has been fatal to one or both partners.
Depending on the severity of the injury, medical attention may be required.
If in doubt, ask your doctor for advice. For minor wounds, care for the injury
by keeping it clean and applying neosporin-type ointment to reduce the risk
of infection. Avoid sex until the wound is healed and, by all means, have
a talk with your partner!
Injuries to the Clitoris/Labia
Like the penis, the clitoris and labia can sustain injuries during oral sex.
These sensitive structures can be accidentally bitten or scraped by the teeth.
The biggest risk is an infection of the woman’s genitals causing redness,
pain, and swelling (see photo to the right). If the infection is allowed to
progress, it can involve the lymph nodes in the groin. The lymph nodes become
painful and swollen. Further, if the infection is allowed to spread, it can
cause a whole body infection requiring intensive medical care. If bite has
occurred, be sure to clean the area thoroughly with soap and water. Apply
a neosporin-type ointment to the injury and watch for signs of infection.
If an infection develops, seek your doctor promptly. Not only are infected
genitals potentially life-threatening, they are also unappetizing!
Do Not Blow Into Her
A potentially lethal injury can occur during oral sex if the partner blows air into the vagina. While the sensation can be intense, it is not worth the risk involved. When air is blown into the vagina, it can travel up the vagina and enter the uterus through the cervix. Once it enters the uterus, it can travel into the fallopian tubes and into the abdominal cavity (see illustration). The air can be absorbed into the circulatory system where it can cause a blockage in the blood flow. The blockage can be severe enough to cause death. Death for oral sex is not a good thing!
Summary
In summary, oral is sex is FUN! But, oral sex can cause an injury to a man
or woman. The injuries can range from a bruise to a minor scrape to a severe
infection. Bruises and minor scrapes require minimal treatment; however, severe
infections are emergencies. Finally, never blow into the vagina since it could
cause a life-threatening emergency.
